My name is Victoria. Since 2024, I have been working as an independent lawyer.
I graduated from the University of Barcelona in 2008, following a year at K.U. Leuven University. During my studies, I gained valuable experience in various non-legal roles and worked in the international relations office of the law faculty. My internships included working with the NGO SOS Racismo and the Legal Guidance Service (Servicio de Orientación Jurídica - SOJ) in Barcelona. In 2008, I received a scholarship to conduct human rights research at the University of Concepción in Chile, where I analyzed post-dictatorship impunity in both Chile and Spain, subsequently publishing my findings in an international human rights print run.
When I returned to Barcelona, I worked in the private sector for a couple of years and completed a Postgraduate in Legal Practice at the the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB), earning a Professional Aptitude Diploma that qualified me for legal aid service work in criminal and civil law.
In 2010, I pursued a Master’s degree (LLM) in International Human Rights Law at Lund University, Sweden, supporting myself through various non-legal jobs. After completing my studies, I returned to Barcelona in 2013 and established an international litigation office. My work involves advising on and accessing various United Nations Committees and the European Court of Human Rights. To date, I am the Spanish lawyer with the most international case wins. Notably, I was the first lawyer to win a case against Spain at the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and I have continued to win several more cases (more information and case details can be found at www.demandasinternacionales.com). Additionally, I worked as a criminal lawyer in Barcelona. In 2013, I was hired by the Síndic de Greuges de Catalunya, where in 2023, I secured a permanent position as a public servant. I am currently on leave of absence from this role.
In my early years at the Síndic de Greuges de Catalunya, I provided legal advice to the public. From 2017 onwards, I focused on children’s issues, including cases of neglect, the Catalan child protection system (DGAIA), high-conflict separations, child sexual violence, and school bullying. Additionally, I addressed discrimination issues, with particular attention to gender-based violence and LGBTIQ+ rights. In 2021, I served as an equality technician at the Parliament of Catalonia for six months, where I assisted in implementing its equality plan.
I am passionate about law and committed to continuous learning. Among my recent studies, I completed a postgraduate course in gender equality policies in public management from the Institut Interuniversitari d’Estudis de Dones i Gènere, ICA, and EAP. I have also undertaken courses qualifying me for legal aid service work in gender-based violence, unaccompanied minors, immigration, juvenile criminal law, and specialized training on Barnahus (“children’s house” in Icelandic) for cases of child sexual abuse.
I regularly attend conferences on gender violence and child abuse and have extensive training in equality and feminism. My contributions include writing legal articles, providing training on demand, and actively collaborating with the Women’s Lawyers Commission of the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB)
